Florencio Kaiet made a fantastic save in the 6th minute, when Placido Txatxu sent off a good shot on target. Silvio Rio's late challenge caught a Club Atletico River Plate's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Silvio Rio helped the player get up and apologised. Silvio Rio hit a great freekick 14 minutes into the match. Dario Mantzio who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 21stth minute tested the skills of Florencio Kaiet when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Independiente's Florencio Kaiet proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 22nd minute of the match, managed to save Independiente from getting a goal against them. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dario Mantzio in the 25th minute of play forced Independiente's goalkeeper Florencio Kaiet to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Independiente's zone, Placido Txatxu stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Florencio Kaiet came out of the goal and Placido Txatxu tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 30 minutes into the match, Independiente's goal looked a bit too open when Dario Mantzio came free, but Florencio Kaiet reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Club Atletico River Plate's Placido Txatxu got a good chance for a goal in the 36th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 37th minute, Independiente's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Freddy Ekhi fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. 2-0 became the score in the 40th minute when Dario Mantzio elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. When Dario Mantzio came up free with the goalie in the 43rd minute, the Club Atletico River Plate fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Dario Mantzio couldn't finish the play. When the match had gone on for 45 minutes, Freddy Ekhi took a quick shot and it went in 3-0 without a chance for Florencio Kaiet to make any attempt to save it. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 3-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Dario Mantzio to make the kick off. Nestor Ekhi made an important save on a dangerous shot by Cornelio Hug in the 61st minute. Nestor Ekhi showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Remigio Rayman, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute. Florencio Kaiet made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Placido Txatxu in the 65th minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Dario Mantzio in the 66th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Florencio Kaiet prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Florencio Kaiet showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dario Mantzio in the 69th minute of the match. Florencio Kaiet stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Dario Mantzio's shot from short distance in the 71st minute. Dario Mantzio blasted a shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Florencio Kaiet having to make a save. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Placido Txatxu in the 79th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Florencio Kaiet saved Independiente from getting behind. In the 81st minute, Placido Txatxu made a precise shot to the right of Florencio Kaiet. Independiente's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 4-0. In the 84thth minute of the game Placido Txatxu who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Independiente's Florencio Kaiet was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Independiente's Florencio Kaiet played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dario Mantzio in the 90th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Cornelio Hug got free with Nestor Ekhi in the 93rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Florencio Kaiet showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dario Mantzio, who was totally free with the ball in the 95th minute.
