Venancio Millan came out of the goal and Ondrej Ursíny tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Venancio Millan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mario Abaunza in the 36th minute of play. The nice shot from Ondrej Ursíny in the 39thth minute just in front of the goal should have ended in point on the board, but Venancio Millan had a great feel for the game and superbly saved the ball from getting in by the left post. Thanks to some nice moves Ondrej Ursíny could shoot a difficult shot in the 40th minute, which Venancio Millan however easily saved by the left post. In the 46th minute of the match, Ondrej Ursíny got a very nice opportunity to score, but Venancio Millan was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mario Abaunza in the 47th minute of play forced independiente's goalkeeper Venancio Millan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Venancio Millan was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. independiente's Mauricio Naldo got a good chance for a goal in the 81st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Eusebio Otsoa showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mauricio Naldo in the 84th minute of the match. In the 86th minute Ondrej Ursíny shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Venancio Millan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
