After 19 played minutes, Tiamayo's Ciro Aznar shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Isaias Lugo came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Tiamayo reached it. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Guaberto Beltxe in the 20th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Isaias Lugo saved RIVER PLATE from getting behind. RIVER PLATE's Santos Ospetsu got a good chance for a goal in the 22nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 27 minutes into the game, Tiamayo's Guaberto Beltxe nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Isaias Lugo made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. A collision led to Tiamayo getting a freekick after 31 minutes play. Aquiles Matteo hit a great ball. The corner led RIVER PLATE's Emiliano Ortle to fire away a dangerous shot which Vinicio Rosalio despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. In the 39th minute, Martin Erramun got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 46th minute, Guaberto Beltxe made a precise shot to the right of Isaias Lugo. RIVER PLATE's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-3. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The supporters of RIVER PLATE booed when Tiamayo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ladislao Abecia didn't get a good kick on the ball. Martin Erramun's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Isaias Lugo firmly grabbed it by the left post. Isaias Lugo was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Guaberto Beltxe showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 0-5 in the 84 minute of play. If Martin Erramun had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 97 minutes into the game, Aquiles Matteo was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player.
