The referee ignored Frontera's protests and gave Leandro Abilio a yellow card for diving instead. Marcial Pelagius took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Arnoldo Kaiet, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a rather tough play, Gimnasia y Esgrima LP's Tiburcio Marin got a free kick in the 16th minute. 20 minutes into the game, Gimnasia y Esgrima LP's Arnoldo Kaiet nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Marcial Pelagius made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Cristian Bakar came free with the goalkeeper in the 24th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Eduardo Ekialde could save by the left post. The referee felt a red card was in order, 33 minutes into the game, when Delmiro Oalo put in a rough tackle. In the 33rd minute, one of Gimnasia y Esgrima LP:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Gimnasia y Esgrima LP. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Enrique Beliran in the 38th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Marcial Pelagius saved Frontera from getting behind. Tiburcio Marin sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Gimnasia y Esgrima LP's Cecilio Tadzio in the 41st minute got a chance for a shot 41st didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Frontera's goalie prevented a goal. Tiburcio Marin sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Arnoldo Kaiet's late challenge caught a Frontera's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Arnoldo Kaiet helped the player get up and apologised. In the 45th minute, Arnoldo Kaiet hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 47 minutes into the match, Gimnasia y Esgrima LP's goalkeeper Eduardo Ekialde had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cristian Bakar. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Cecilio Tadzio stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After some fancy dribbling in the 53rd minute, Tiburcio Marin managed to get in a good position for a shot. Gimnasia y Esgrima LP's supporters rose to their feet, but Tiburcio Marin was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Marcial Pelagius breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Eduardo Ekialde made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Erubiel Valiente in the 55th minute of play. In the 56th minute Cristian Bakar shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eduardo Ekialde saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Cecilio Tadzio got free with Marcial Pelagius in the 59th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 64th minute, Cecilio Tadzio got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When Leandro Abilio was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 66 minutes had been played. A collision led to Frontera getting a freekick after 66 minutes play. Leandro Abilio hit a great ball. Bartolo Soin received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 68th minute. Marcial Pelagius tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Cecilio Tadzio got free with Marcial Pelagius in the 69th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Frontera's Marcial Pelagius proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 71st minute of the match, managed to save Frontera from getting a goal against them. If Cecilio Tadzio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Gimnasia y Esgrima LP's Cecilio Tadzio got a good chance for a goal in the 92nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Enrique Beliran sent away a hard shot on goal in the 94th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 95th match minute, Frontera was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Romeo Berriotxoa to maneuver through the defense. Gimnasia y Esgrima LP's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
