After a rather tough play, Deportivo Alavés's Aureliano Kaxen got a free kick in the 15th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Braulio Gomez during the 16th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to MIJAID getting a freekick after 16 minutes play. Braulio Gomez hit a great ball. Cecilio Castulo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 17th minute. Mauricio Faro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. MIJAID's Pedro Chap played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Elpidio Gutierrez in the 23rd minute of play. Elpidio Gutierrez fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pedro Chap having to interfere. Deportivo Alavés's Mauricio Faro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cecilio Castulo in the 34th minute of play. The crowd rose to their feet as Deportivo Alavés's Nicolas Fresco slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Pedro Chap. That made the score 1-0 after 36 minutes of play. Braulio Gomez sent away a hard shot on goal in the 41st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Cecilio Castulo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Braulio Gomez in the 47th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Mauricio Faro saved Deportivo Alavés from getting behind. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

After having played for 54 minutes, Cecilio Castulo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. MIJAID's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cecilio Castulo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The supporters of Deportivo Alavés booed when MIJAID was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Denis Peli didn't get a good kick on the ball. Mauricio Faro stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Braulio Gomez's shot from short distance in the 59th minute. When Elpidio Gutierrez came up free with the goalie in the 62nd minute, the Deportivo Alavés fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Elpidio Gutierrez couldn't finish the play. If Aureliano Kaxen had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Braulio Gomez fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 95th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mauricio Faro having to interfere. Deportivo Alavés's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
