After some careless play in the Independiente defense, Armando Libertad kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jacobo Lucero. The Independiente fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jacobo Lucero should have stopped the shot. In the 17th minute the ball was on its way in behind Estudiantes LP's goalkeeper Bohannon Dunne, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Jacobo Lucero took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Horacio Mincho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Miguel Tristan hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jorge Sanson in the 24th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Bohannon Dunne saved Estudiantes LP from getting behind. Jacobo Lucero showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Horacio Mincho, who was totally free with the ball in the 25th minute. Estudiantes LP's Humberto Filipo got a good chance for a goal in the 27th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Teo Gomesano kicked well hit freekick during the 30th minute of the match. Independiente's Jacobo Lucero played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Humberto Filipo in the 32nd minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Humberto Filipo in the 37th minute of play forced Independiente's goalkeeper Jacobo Lucero to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 48th minute of the match Sergio Ilixo shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Jacobo Lucero showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After the first half Estudiantes LP were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Bernardo Pirmin stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After some fancy dribbling in the 52nd minute, Alejandro Leizarraga managed to get in a good position for a shot. Estudiantes LP's supporters rose to their feet, but Alejandro Leizarraga was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jacobo Lucero breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Alejandro Leizarraga received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 54th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 64th minute, Armando Libertad managed to get in a good position for a shot. Estudiantes LP's supporters rose to their feet, but Armando Libertad was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jacobo Lucero breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The Estudiantes LP fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. Jacobo Lucero was out of position in the 91 minute of play, and Horacio Mincho capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Horacio Mincho really showed his touch with that goal: 0-4. The Independiente fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Estudiantes LP were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
