The referee ignored Le Petard's protests and gave Alfonso Sansone a yellow card for diving instead. Fabio Betadur fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nemesio Normando having to interfere. Anastasio Aimar took the ball and in the 36 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Lino Fonda. Lino Fonda dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. In the 40th minute Arnulfo Acevedo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nemesio Normando saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The throw-in from Mateo Gar in the 44th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Le Petard's Celso Marcones. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Anastasio Aimar to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute Anastasio Aimar shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lino Fonda saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 75 minutes, Arnulfo Acevedo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Le Petard's supporters crossed their fingers, but Arnulfo Acevedo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Le Petard's Lino Fonda played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nicanor Grabiel in the 87th minute of play. In the 89th minute, Sánchez's Anastasio Aimar dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-4. After a defensive mix-up in Le Petard's zone, Anastasio Aimar stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Lino Fonda came out of the goal and Anastasio Aimar tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Sánchez were delighted with the way they had won the match. They had held their defensive line well and made the most of their chances, to claim a victory over Le Petard's much stronger midfield.
