Guañizul's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. 8 minutes into the match, Guañizul's goalkeeper Teobaldo Aguirre had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Rogelio Ieltxu. Jonas Policarpio charged in rather forcefully in the 9th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Jonas Policarpio the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Jonas Policarpio hit a great freekick 9 minutes into the match. German Lizbeth took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nestor Reynardo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Pedro Tolino fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without German Lizbeth having to interfere. Newells's German Lizbeth played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nestor Reynardo in the 20th minute of play. German Lizbeth showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nestor Reynardo in the 22nd minute of the match. Pedro Tolino sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 32nd minute, Rogelio Ieltxu got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Guañizul's zone, Santiago Perrando stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Teobaldo Aguirre came out of the goal and Santiago Perrando tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. German Lizbeth showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Pedro Tolino, who was totally free with the ball in the 41st minute. Guañizul's Nestor Reynardo suffered a sore thigh after 46 minutes and couldn't finish the game. After 46 minutes, Guillermo Dimo mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Newells and the Guañizul players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 45th minute, one of Newells:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Newells. Pedro Tolino walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. After the first half Guañizul were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Carlos Ostargi was the one to do the kick off. When Albano Gaitano fell near the penalty area in the 53rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Guañizul's protests and gave Albano Gaitano a yellow card for diving instead. Albano Gaitano hit a great freekick 53 minutes into the match. German Lizbeth made a fantastic save in the 58th minute, when Carlos Ostargi sent off a good shot on target. Albano Gaitano kicked well hit freekick during the 60th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Julio Ortzi in the 61st minute of play forced Guañizul's goalkeeper Teobaldo Aguirre to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Guañizul's Cristo Mikolas got a free kick in the 62nd minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Carlos Ostargi got free with German Lizbeth in the 65th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Evelio Erdiano kicked well hit freekick during the 66th minute of the match. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Newells. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Santiago Perrando in the 88th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Teobaldo Aguirre prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After a rather tough play, Newells's Guillermo Dimo got a free kick in the 94th minute. German Lizbeth made an important save on a dangerous shot by Pedro Tolino in the 94th minute. Newells's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
