Bartolo Ieltxu could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 36th minute of the match, but German Lizbeth made a huge save. In the 38th minute of the match, Adrian Javiar tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but German Lizbeth saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. David Behe fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without German Lizbeth having to interfere. With a little luck, Newells's German Lizbeth got control of the ball when David Behe tried to sneak it across the goal line. German Lizbeth made a fantastic save in the 48th minute, when Bartolo Ieltxu sent off a good shot on target.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Santiago Perrando to make the kick off. Adrian Javiar fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 54th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without German Lizbeth having to interfere. In the 60th match minute, Newells was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Guillermo Dimo to maneuver through the defense. In the 61st minute of the match Jeremias Garin shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but German Lizbeth showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by David Behe in the 96th minute of play forced Newells's goalkeeper German Lizbeth to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The Newells supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Newells would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
