Hugo Argoitz made a fantastic save in the 17th minute, when Alfonso Birjaio sent off a good shot on target. The supporters of Nueva Luna booed when River Plate was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Isidoro Vargas didn't get a good kick on the ball. Amadeo Barea took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Blas Beat, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 20th minute Gavino Miro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Amadeo Barea saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 25th minute, Omar Ostots managed to get in a good position for a shot. River Plate's supporters rose to their feet, but Omar Ostots was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Hugo Argoitz breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Teofilo Urdaspal fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hugo Argoitz having to interfere. When Genaro Eutropio fell near the penalty area in the 38th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Nueva Luna's protests and gave Genaro Eutropio a yellow card for diving instead. Hugo Argoitz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Teofilo Urdaspal, who was totally free with the ball in the 41st minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Blas Beat in the 42nd minute of play forced River Plate's goalkeeper Amadeo Barea to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Nueva Luna's Gavino Miro managed to work through River Plate's defense and was going for an easy goal, but he hit the shot with his toe and the ball flew outside the goal. Gavino Miro dejectedly held out his arms as if to ask why the ball hadn't gone in. After a very even first half the match was still tied. An unexpectedly hard shot by Teofilo Urdaspal in the 65th minute of play forced Nueva Luna's goalkeeper Hugo Argoitz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 70 minutes, Eloy Dalmai mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Nueva Luna and the River Plate players grew even worse after the yellow card. When River Plate's Teofilo Urdaspal in the 72nd minute got a chance for a shot 72nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. When the final whistle went the supporters of Nueva Luna were delighted that their team had defeated the much more dominant River Plate side.
