In the 15th minute Lázaro Barbosa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Diego Asteri saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ruben Gonza in the 19th minute of play forced Académica FC's goalkeeper Eustacio Chano to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 23 minutes into the match, Académica FC's goalkeeper Eustacio Chano had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Natalio Chayo. Eustacio Chano was a little too slow when Erling Håland got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 24th minute. The score was now 2-1. 26 minutes into the game, Geronimo Polentzi was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. La Scaloneta's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Académica FC the free kick. In the 27th match minute, La Scaloneta was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Geronimo Polentzi to maneuver through the defense. Diego Asteri showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Arturo Calisto in the 29th minute of the match. Diego Asteri showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rigoberto Dominic, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. Diego Asteri didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Rigoberto Dominic went, in the 35th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-2 was the resulting score. Diego Asteri showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Donato Pasqual, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 3-4 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Erling Håland to make the kick off. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Ruben Gonza in the 52nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Eustacio Chano prevented the ball from getting in the gole. With his leg Diego Asteri managed to avoid a goal in the 55thth minute, when Académica FC's Ingvar Linqvist fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Diego Asteri showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sven-Edvin Sävström, who was totally free with the ball in the 57th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Arturo Calisto during the 59th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 59th minute, one of Académica FC:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Académica FC. When the match had gone on for 84 minutes, Ingvar Linqvist put it in 4-6 from a short distance just to the right of Diego Asteri. Erling Håland took the ball and in the 90 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Eustacio Chano. Eustacio Chano dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 5-6. In the 93rd minute Ingvar Linqvist shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Diego Asteri saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The La Scaloneta supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Académica FC's performance. The match ended with a win for Académica FC.
