Auke Popken made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. The crowd rose to their feet as Bernal FC's Pablo Gaxan slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Tomáš Pollák. That made the score 2-2 after 37 minutes of play. A collision led to Bernal FC getting a freekick after 43 minutes play. João Paulo Fantini hit a great ball. After 45 played minutes San Martín got a freekick which was hit by Leonides Rumaldo. Wilfredo Checa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tomáš Pollák having to interfere.

After 52 played minutes San Martín got a freekick which was hit by Primitivo Chiappe. Hélio de Castro charged in rather forcefully in the 54th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Hélio de Castro the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Hélio de Castro kicked well hit freekick during the 54th minute of the match. The referee ignored San Martín's protests and gave Ionuț Roşu a yellow card for diving instead. In the 84th minute, one of San Martín:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for San Martín. Hélio de Castro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 89th minute. Auke Popken tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Auke Popken took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Leonides Rumaldo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Auke Popken came out of the goal in the 90th minute to try and stop a shot by San Martín's Leonides Rumaldo. But to his dismay, Leonides Rumaldo quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-3. San Martín's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
