Newell´s Old Boys's Miroslaw Pochorylo tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. After 25 played minutes Newell´s Old Boys got a freekick which was hit by Teodosio Sayvion. 27 minutes into the game, Nilton Dante was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Italó's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Newell´s Old Boys the free kick. The audience thought a goal was coming when Teodosio Sayvion got free with Generoso Haritz in the 28th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Italó's Generoso Haritz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Esteban Acuña in the 29th minute of play. In a very dangerous position, a player in Italó fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 31st minute. Penalty! Italó's Camilo Elixio got a good chance for a goal in the 38th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 40thth minute of the game Camilo Elixio who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Newell´s Old Boys's Miroslaw Pochorylo was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The audience was convinced that Camilo Elixio's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Miroslaw Pochorylo was relentless in the 41st minute of the game. In the 43rd minute of the match, Esteban Acuña tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Generoso Haritz saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. 44 minutes into the match, Italó's goalkeeper Generoso Haritz had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Humberto Nuxila. In the 45th minute, Esteban Acuña left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Newell´s Old Boys fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-2. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-2 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Humberto Nuxila was the one to do the kick off. Generoso Haritz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Elias Laurendi, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 61 minutes into the match, Italó's goal looked a bit too open when Esteban Acuña came free, but Generoso Haritz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 62 minutes into the match, Esteban Acuña had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Generoso Haritz. Italó's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Esteban Acuña was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-2. After 66 played minutes Italó got a freekick which was hit by Camilo Elixio. 68 minutes into the match, Italó's goal looked a bit too open when Elias Laurendi came free, but Generoso Haritz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Camilo Elixio in the 76th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Miroslaw Pochorylo saved Newell´s Old Boys from getting behind. The supporters of Italó booed when Newell´s Old Boys was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 93 match minutes in a wonderful position. Baldomiro Elija didn't get a good kick on the ball.
