After some careless play in the Maluko Juniors defense, Elias Laurendi kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Severino Ekhi. Marco-Aurelio Palermo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 20th minute of the match, but Miroslaw Pochorylo made a huge save. In the 22ndth minute of the game Humberto Nuxila who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Maluko Juniors's Severino Ekhi was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After 23 minutes, Jose Weterio mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Newell´s Old Boys and the Maluko Juniors players grew even worse after the yellow card. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-5 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Miroslaw Pochorylo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Berend Stuifzand in the 52nd minute of the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Teodosio Sayvion got free with Severino Ekhi in the 67th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Sava Antić's late challenge caught a Newell´s Old Boys's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card.
