The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Osvaldo Ardiles received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Baldomero Iztal came out and tried to block the shot, but Osvaldo Ardiles slotted it home off the left post making it 2-0 in the 16th minute. Hernan Vedillo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Froilan Gitano received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. Omar Bertin tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Eulalio Oro in the 27th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Omar Bertin prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When CA Vélez Sarsfield's Eulalio Oro in the 31st minute got a chance for a shot 31st didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Tacura's goalie prevented a goal. CA Vélez Sarsfield's Froilan Gitano got a good chance for a goal in the 32nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Baldomero Iztal had in the 38thth minute some difficulties stopping Raul Perrando's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. After a long run with the ball, Raul Perrando did a trick in the 38th minute in front of CA Vélez Sarsfield's goalkeeper, who threw himself to the side. After that it was simple to shoot 3-0. An impressive performance by Tacura's Raul Perrando! Omar Bertin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Hernan Vedillo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Osvaldo Ardiles received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. Baldomero Iztal tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 3-0 at half-time.

In the 52nd match minute, CA Vélez Sarsfield was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marco Mikeldi to maneuver through the defense. When Ronaldo Gullit came up free with the goalie in the 53rd minute, the Tacura fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ronaldo Gullit couldn't finish the play. After 54th play minutes Raul Perrando shot 4-0, a short shot which went by Baldomero Iztal and just under the crossbar into goal. Eulalio Oro came free with the goalkeeper in the 58th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Omar Bertin could save by the left post. The audience thought a goal was coming when Eulalio Oro got free with Omar Bertin in the 60th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 67 minutes, Osvaldo Ardiles mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Tacura and the CA Vélez Sarsfield players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Tacura getting a freekick after 68 minutes play. Osvaldo Ardiles hit a great ball. Ronaldo Gullit took the ball and in the 72 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Baldomero Iztal. Baldomero Iztal dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 5-0. During the 83rd minute of the match Osvaldo Ardiles completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Osvaldo Ardiles a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. A collision led to Tacura getting a freekick after 84 minutes play. Osvaldo Ardiles hit a great ball. 96 minutes into the game, Tacura's Raul Perrando nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Baldomero Iztal made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 7-0. CA Vélez Sarsfield's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
