An unexpectedly hard shot by Teodosio Telesforo in the 19th minute of play forced Caleufú's goalkeeper Alejo Urtsin to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Alejo Urtsin made an important save on a dangerous shot by Teodosio Telesforo in the 21st minute. 22 minutes into the match, Newell´s's goal looked a bit too open when Fabiano Trabucco came free, but Nemesio Abilio reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Fabiano Trabucco scored 1-1 in the 22nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Nemesio Abilio, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Teodosio Telesforos short, quick shot in the 27thth minute got Alejo Urtsin to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. 2-1 became the score in the 28th minute when Tzvetomir Gruykin elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. 36 minutes into the match, Fabiano Trabucco notched a goal, 2-2, to the right of Newell´s's Nemesio Abilio. The supporters of Newell´s booed when Caleufú was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 41 match minutes in a wonderful position. Norberto Manex didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Tzvetomir Gruykin in the 43rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Alejo Urtsin prevented the ball from getting in the gole. A collision led to Caleufú getting a freekick after 47 minutes play. Patricio Rico hit a great ball. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Alejo Urtsin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tzvetomir Gruykin in the 52nd minute of play. After 56 played minutes Newell´s got a freekick which was hit by Teodosio Telesforo. Teodosio Telesforo struck a weak shot in the 59th minute. Alejo Urtsin didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Newell´s. Newell´s's Atilano Lluciano was substituted for Rafael Orain. When Caleufú's Fabiano Trabucco in the 62nd minute got a chance for a shot 62nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. After 70 minutes, Gonzalo Tartalo mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Caleufú and the Newell´s players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 71 played minutes Caleufú got a freekick which was hit by Gonzalo Tartalo. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Caleufú reached it. After a rather tough play, Newell´s's Baraxil Casillas got a free kick in the 77th minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Teodosio Telesforo in the 89th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Alejo Urtsin saved Caleufú from getting behind. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Alejo Urtsin prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Newell´s's Teodosio Telesforo got a good chance for a goal in the 90th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 92nd minute, Tzvetomir Gruykin got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Alejo Urtsin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tzvetomir Gruykin, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The attack was good, but when Teodosio Telesforo in the 98th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal.
