The Atlético Zelaya fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. When the match clock showed 6 minutes, the score became 0-2 when Jacobo Abechuco sped through river FC's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Ionel Cândea. Ionel Cândea showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alonzo Sal, who was totally free with the ball in the 10th minute. 12 minutes into the match, Atlético Zelaya's Jacobo Abechuco sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Ionel Cândea narrowly saved just below the crossbar. If Roman Riquelme had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 18th minute, Alonzo Sal ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ionel Cândea was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-3. After 21 played minutes Atlético Zelaya got a freekick which was hit by Venancio Moise. In the 22nd minute of the match, Fernan Henry got a very nice opportunity to score, but Rui Santos was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. The supporters of Atlético Zelaya booed when river FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alberto Iyan didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 24th minute, Jacobo Abechuco managed to get in a good position for a shot. Atlético Zelaya's supporters rose to their feet, but Jacobo Abechuco was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ionel Cândea breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Ionel Cândea made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jacobo Abechuco in the 27th minute of play. Jacobo Abechuco sent away a hard shot on goal in the 32nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Roman Riquelme recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 44th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-4 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

After a defensive mix-up in river FC's zone, Jacobo Abechuco stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ionel Cândea came out of the goal and Jacobo Abechuco tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 53rd minute, Jacobo Abechuco ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ionel Cândea was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-5. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Nestor Hanot in the 62nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Rui Santos saved Atlético Zelaya from getting behind. Roman Riquelme was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 68th minute. Atlético Zelaya's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Jacobo Abechuco fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ionel Cândea having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fernan Henry in the 72nd minute of play forced Atlético Zelaya's goalkeeper Rui Santos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Amado Pere kicked well hit freekick during the 95th minute of the match. The Atlético Zelaya players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
