Váldson do Vale's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Marcial Lordi read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 29th minute of play. After some careless play in the PieLar FC defense, Niki Lauda kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Fernando Erasto. The PieLar FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Fernando Erasto should have stopped the shot. Wu Li Zhi received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 33rd minute. Fernando Erasto tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Niki Lauda had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After having played for 37 minutes, Niki Lauda managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. RIVER's supporters crossed their fingers, but Niki Lauda was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 39 played minutes RIVER got a freekick which was hit by Marco Rudolfo. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Váldson do Vale to make the kick off. Marcelino Raposo made in the 51st minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by Niki Lauda. Fernando Erasto showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Niki Lauda, who was totally free with the ball in the 52nd minute. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. RIVER walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
