Mailín's Gerardo Gutxi played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Joel Aresti in the 7th minute of play. If Segundo Jakobe had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 9th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Futbol San Nicolas booed when Mailín was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 10 match minutes in a wonderful position. Melchor Garin didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 17th minute, Stergios Stefanoulis left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Futbol San Nicolas fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Joel Aresti might have been able to make a better finish in the 42nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Gerardo Gutxi. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Joel Aresti ran back to his position shaking his head. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

If Segundo Jakobe had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Gerardo Gutxi prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 69 minutes into the game, Paulo Hustaz was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Mailín's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Futbol San Nicolas the free kick. When Futbol San Nicolas's Stergios Stefanoulis in the 71st minute got a chance for a shot 71st didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Anibal Cresconio kicked well hit freekick during the 82nd minute of the match. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see Mailín lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
