Mário Súľovský made an important save on a dangerous shot by Yngvi Óttarsson in the 2nd minute. Fortuna were awarded a corner in the 3th minute after Estudiantes de La Plata's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Vladimir do Valle took the corner. Fortuna's Yngvi Óttarsson was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Mário Súľovský in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. With a little luck, Estudiantes de La Plata's Mário Súľovský got control of the ball when Yngvi Óttarsson tried to sneak it across the goal line. 6 minutes into the game, Yngvi Óttarsson cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Mário Súľovský was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. If Yngvi Óttarsson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 9th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Vladimir do Valle during the 11th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 11th minute, Vladimir do Valle hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After having played for 13 minutes, Yngvi Óttarsson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Fortuna's supporters crossed their fingers, but Yngvi Óttarsson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Tassos Kefalas made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Florentino Rodas in the 17th minute of play. Anier Fernendos short, quick shot in the 20thth minute got Mário Súľovský to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Anier Fernendo in the 20th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Mário Súľovský saved Estudiantes de La Plata from getting behind. Tassos Kefalas showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Filomeno Marko, who was totally free with the ball in the 21st minute. 23 minutes into the match, Estudiantes de La Plata's goal looked a bit too open when Anier Fernendo came free, but Mário Súľovský reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 24th minute of the match Fortuna got a corner. Estudiantes de La Plata's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Vladimir do Valle ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner ended in Julian Paublo almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Estudiantes de La Plata's Mário Súľovský did a great save. Yngvi Óttarsson could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 30th minute of the match, but Mário Súľovský made a huge save. Florentino Rodas kicked well hit freekick during the 31st minute of the match. In the 34th minute Fortuna were awarded a corner. Vladimir do Valle went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner ended in Vladimir do Valle almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Estudiantes de La Plata's Mário Súľovský did a great save. The audience was convinced that Yngvi Óttarsson's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Mário Súľovský was relentless in the 38th minute of the game. After a rather tough play, Fortuna's Rodolfo Lordi got a free kick in the 44th minute. Fortuna's Tassos Kefalas played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Filomeno Marko in the 47th minute of play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
Estudiantes de La Plata made a substitution. Joel Barco replaced Atilano Poz. Yngvi Óttarsson blasted a shot towards the goal in the 52nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Mário Súľovský having to make a save. 52 minutes into the match, Yngvi Óttarsson had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Mário Súľovský. Estudiantes de La Plata's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Yngvi Óttarsson was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-0. Mário Súľovský showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Yngvi Óttarsson, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. Florentino Rodas recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 56th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 60th minute Yngvi Óttarsson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mário Súľovský saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Mário Súľovský made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Yngvi Óttarsson in the 62nd minute of play. Yngvi Óttarsson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 65th minute. Mário Súľovský tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Fortuna's Anier Fernendo in the 69th minute got a chance for a shot 69th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Estudiantes de La Plata's goalie prevented a goal. Yngvi Óttarsson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mário Súľovský having to interfere. In the 83rd match minute, Estudiantes de La Plata was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Carmine Di Paola to maneuver through the defense. Mário Súľovský stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Anier Fernendo's shot from short distance in the 85th minute. In the 86th minute Fortuna were awarded a corner. Vladimir do Valle went to the cornerflag to take it. 89 minutes into the match, Estudiantes de La Plata's goal looked a bit too open when Vladimir do Valle came free, but Mário Súľovský reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Yngvi Óttarsson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 94th minute. Mário Súľovský tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Estudiantes de La Plata's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because Fortuna had won, even though Estudiantes de La Plata had held more of the ball.
