Daren McCollum's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Erik Kassentoft read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 7th minute of play. In the 9th match minute, Ardiles was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bo-Erik Samuelsson to maneuver through the defense. With an all-out effort, Lugano 1 y 2's Erik Kassentoft threw himself towards the right post 11 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Daren McCollum, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Lugano 1 y 2's Marcelo Barovero played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Frans Toussain in the 13th minute of play. In the 18th minute, Donato Venerando ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Marcelo Barovero was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. In the 21st minute Basarab Bîlbă shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marcelo Barovero saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ardiles were awarded a corner in the 22th minute after Lugano 1 y 2's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Donato Venerando took the corner. Donato Venerando made a great header on Ardiles's corner, it was just that Lugano 1 y 2's Marcelo Barovero managed to reach the ball for a save. Donato Venerando's long shot made the audience stand up and applaude when it rumbled by Marcelo Barovero on his right side and into the goal. 22 minutes into the game it was 1-2. Marcelo Barovero showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jimeno Abastas in the 31st minute of the match. Marcelo Barovero took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jimeno Abastas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Coşkun Başdaş kicked well hit freekick during the 35th minute of the match. In the 37th match minute, Lugano 1 y 2 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Haroldo Laffitte to maneuver through the defense. Marcelo Barovero showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Basarab Bîlbă in the 39th minute of the match. Donato Venerando took the ball and in the 43 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Marcelo Barovero. Marcelo Barovero dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-3. After 46 played minutes Ardiles got a freekick which was hit by Lino Telesforo. The Lugano 1 y 2 players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Ardiles were winning 1-3.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Constantino Toro was the one to do the kick off. Marcelo Barovero showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Basarab Bîlbă, who was totally free with the ball in the 52nd minute. Frans Toussain scored 1-4 in the 59th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Marcelo Barovero, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. If Jimeno Abastas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 64th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Marcelo Barovero made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Basarab Bîlbă in the 69th minute of play. Marcelo Barovero stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Basarab Bîlbă's shot from short distance in the 71st minute. When Lugano 1 y 2's Constantino Toro in the 75th minute got a chance for a shot 75th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Ardiles's goalie prevented a goal. In the 78th minute Constantino Toro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Erik Kassentoft saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Lugano 1 y 2's Marcelo Barovero played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Donato Venerando in the 80th minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Silvestre Tabb during the 81st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Lugano 1 y 2 getting a freekick after 81 minutes play. Silvestre Tabb hit a great ball. Olívio Ferraz could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 83rd minute of the match, but Marcelo Barovero made a huge save. In the 84th minute the ball was on its way in behind Lugano 1 y 2's goalkeeper Marcelo Barovero, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 86th minute, Basarab Bîlbă hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Daren McCollum recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 89th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The audience was convinced that Fermin Quintin's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Erik Kassentoft was relentless in the 92nd minute of the game. The Lugano 1 y 2 fans' excitement grew in the 92nd match minute when Lugano 1 y 2's Fermin Quintin looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 2-4 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Although Lugano 1 y 2 had been in control for most of the match, Ardiles still came away with the win.
