The Laprida fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. Melquiades Maldonado showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Barnaba Karp, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. The Ostendi players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Laprida were winning 1-2.
Laprida made a substitution. Domingo Ignatius replaced Teodoro Celino. The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Barnaba Karp stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd match minute, Laprida was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bassam Ghalib to maneuver through the defense. After having played for 58 minutes, Domingo Ignatius managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Laprida's supporters crossed their fingers, but Domingo Ignatius was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Laprida's Ábel Pasqualini was substituted for Efrain Fagondo. Melquiades Maldonado was a little too slow when Domingo Ignatius got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 60th minute. The score was now 1-3. With an all-out effort, Laprida's Melquiades Maldonado threw himself towards the right post 69 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Domingo Ignatius, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. After 76 minutes Ostendi's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Bassam Ghalib who took care of the corner kick. The corner ended in Domingo Ignatius almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Ostendi's Melquiades Maldonado did a great save. After a defensive mix-up in Ostendi's zone, Domingo Ignatius stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Melquiades Maldonado came out of the goal and Domingo Ignatius tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Domingo Ignatius could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 82nd minute of the match, but Melquiades Maldonado made a huge save. 92 minutes into the game, Laprida's Domingo Ignatius nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Melquiades Maldonado made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-5. The Laprida supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Laprida would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
