A sloppy throw-in by Albano Argider in the 6th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Newell´s's Amador Lano. 6 minutes into the match, CA Juventud Unida's goal looked a bit too open when Marcos Giraldo came free, but Robustiano Calvet reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Albano Argider kicked well hit freekick during the 8th minute of the match. With an all-out effort, Newell´s's Robustiano Calvet threw himself towards the right post 10 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Marcos Giraldo, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Marcos Giraldo blasted a shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Robustiano Calvet having to make a save. If Saverio Petrigai had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 35th minute the ball was on its way in behind Newell´s's goalkeeper Vladan Kovačević, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Marcos Giraldo had several of the CA Juventud Unida's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 38 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. The wind increased when Rainer Marthaler made the kick off in the second half. After 53 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for CA Juventud Unida! Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Marcos Giraldo in the 60th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Robustiano Calvet prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 61st minute Newell´s were awarded a corner. Marcos Giraldo went to the cornerflag to take it. Vladan Kovačević made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Braulio Iyan in the 63rd minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Saverio Petrigai in the 69th minute of play forced Newell´s's goalkeeper Vladan Kovačević to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Marcos Giraldo in the 72nd minute of play forced CA Juventud Unida's goalkeeper Robustiano Calvet to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Rainer Marthaler got free with Vladan Kovačević in the 78th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Newell´s's Vladan Kovačević proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 79th minute of the match, managed to save Newell´s from getting a goal against them. After 80 played minutes Newell´s got a freekick which was hit by Milan Baroš. CA Juventud Unida made a substitution. Jeremias Medina replaced Braulio Iyan. Newell´s made a substitution. Vladan Kovačević didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Rainer Marthaler went, in the 82nd minute, to the upper right corner, 3-1 was the resulting score. Vladan Kovačević made a fantastic save in the 85th minute, when Saverio Petrigai sent off a good shot on target. CA Juventud Unida were awarded a corner in the 86th minute after Newell´s's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Modesto Cheche took the corner. In the 91st minute, Rainer Marthaler reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Vladan Kovačević. The goal made the score 3-2. Newell´s were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of CA Juventud Unida for a fine match.
