Independiente's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Maikel Jol in the 13th minute. After taking down the ball on Independiente's corner Flavio Tanio fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Leonel Rocco quite easily take care of the ball. Gabriel Ikatz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wang Di Yi, who was totally free with the ball in the 24th minute. After 30 played minutes Independiente got a freekick which was hit by Maikel Jol. Leonel Rocco showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Eriberto Truylos in the 34th minute of the match. The supporters of Independiente booed when Cascadia United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 37 match minutes in a wonderful position. Conrado Ugaitz didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 39th minute, Martin Suy managed to get in a good position for a shot. Independiente's supporters rose to their feet, but Martin Suy was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Leonel Rocco breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Miguel Ángel Benito's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Gabriel Ikatz read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 41st minute of play.

Cascadia United's Constantino Neto was substituted for Abel Neron.
