Marcelino Flor showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hernan Lano in the 17th minute of the match. Dan Wennerqvist made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ovidio Marin in the 19th minute of play. Yu Jian Tian's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Dan Wennerqvist read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 22nd minute of play. 27 minutes into the match, ₡ösᴛᴀ ᴆᴇ ₿ᴀʀᴙɪĿ's goal looked a bit too open when Hernan Lano came free, but Marcelino Flor reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Dan Wennerqvist prevented the ball from getting in the gole. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Yu Jian Tian couldn't finish the play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Yu Jian Tian got free with Dan Wennerqvist in the 43rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Yu Jian Tian to make the kick off.
