The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Vilhelm Franklínsson hit a great freekick 4 minutes into the match. Steinarr Þórhallsson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Úlrik Reyrsson, who was totally free with the ball in the 9th minute. If Steinarr Hilmarsson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 13th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 18th minute Úlrik Reyrsson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Steinarr Þórhallsson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 20 minutes, Arnar Eiðsson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Bakkavör Stað's supporters crossed their fingers, but Arnar Eiðsson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Steinarr Þórhallsson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Úlrik Reyrsson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Úlrik Reyrsson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Bakkavör Stað booed when Skel Þingeyri was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vilhelm Franklínsson didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Úlrik Reyrsson in the 29th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Steinarr Þórhallsson saved Skel Þingeyri from getting behind. Steinarr Þórhallsson stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Arnar Eiðsson's shot from short distance in the 34th minute. 35 minutes into the match, Skel Þingeyri's goal looked a bit too open when Úlrik Reyrsson came free, but Steinarr Þórhallsson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 35 minutes into the game, Bakkavör Stað's Úlrik Reyrsson nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Steinarr Þórhallsson made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. After 45 played minutes Skel Þingeyri got a freekick which was hit by Neisti Skúlason. In the 46th minute, Rafn Jósafatsson sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Skel Þingeyri's Steinarr Þórhallsson didn't even have to move. Úlrik Reyrsson took the ball and in the 49 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Steinarr Þórhallsson. Steinarr Þórhallsson dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2.

Úlrik Reyrsson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 58th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Steinarr Þórhallsson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Úlrik Reyrsson in the 60th minute of play. Arnar Eiðsson struck a weak shot in the 63rd minute. Steinarr Þórhallsson didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Bakkavör Stað. Arnar Eiðsson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 66th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Steinarr Þórhallsson having to interfere. Arnar Eiðsson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 74th minute. Steinarr Þórhallsson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Bakkavör Stað's Arnar Eiðsson got a good chance for a goal in the 78th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Úlrik Reyrsson was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 88th minute. Bakkavör Stað's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. 90 minutes into the match, Skel Þingeyri's goalkeeper Steinarr Þórhallsson had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Arnar Eiðsson. Bakkavör Stað played a much better game than Skel Þingeyri and deserved their victory. The Skel Þingeyri players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
