In the 11th minute of the match Páll Arnþórsson sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Filippus Geislason skillfully saved the ball. 16 minutes into the match, Garðabæ's Tumi Gissurarson sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Filippus Geislason narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Through an outstanding action, after 31 minutes, Filippus Geislason successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. In the 32nd minute of the match, Tumi Gissurarson tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Filippus Geislason saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nicolas Anelka in the 34th minute of play forced Garðabæ's goalkeeper Sváfnir Játvarðarson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Sváfnir Játvarðarson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ingiþór Boðason, who was totally free with the ball in the 41st minute. After a rather tough play, Garðabæ's Ölver Runólfsson got a free kick in the 44th minute. After 46 played minutes Þýsku Tærnar got a freekick which was hit by Hallur Þórhallsson. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

53 minutes into the match, Þýsku Tærnar's goal looked a bit too open when Tumi Gissurarson came free, but Filippus Geislason reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 55th minute the ball was on its way in behind Þýsku Tærnar's goalkeeper Filippus Geislason, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After having played for 56 minutes, Tumi Gissurarson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Garðabæ's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tumi Gissurarson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 59th match minute, Þýsku Tærnar was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Berghreinn Dónaldsson to maneuver through the defense. In the 60th minute Tumi Gissurarson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Filippus Geislason saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Tumi Gissurarson recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 65th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The Garðabæ fans' excitement grew in the 73rd match minute when Garðabæ's Kristján Styrmisson looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 2-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. If Kristján Styrmisson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Sveinungi Hafsteinsson fell near the penalty area in the 81st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Garðabæ's protests and gave Sveinungi Hafsteinsson a yellow card for diving instead. In the 81st match minute, Garðabæ was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sveinungi Hafsteinsson to maneuver through the defense. Þýsku Tærnar's Filippus Geislason played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kristján Styrmisson in the 87th minute of play. When Ásgeir Arndórsson fell near the penalty area in the 93rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Garðabæ's protests and gave Ásgeir Arndórsson a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Garðabæ getting a freekick after 93 minutes play. Ásgeir Arndórsson hit a great ball. The supporters of Garðabæ booed when Þýsku Tærnar was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Teitur Gunnbergsson didn't get a good kick on the ball. The Garðabæ players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
