The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Stefan Purović took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marijan Preljević, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Martonoš's supporters rose to their feet, but Kuzman Masulović was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Dražen Đuković breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 16th minute, Marijan Preljević ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Stefan Purović was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. When Janko Draganić came up free with the goalie in the 26th minute, the Konjarnik Republika fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Janko Draganić couldn't finish the play. After 27 played minutes Martonoš got a freekick which was hit by Miodrag Anđelić. Dražen Đuković showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Miodrag Anđelić in the 30th minute of the match. Konjarnik Republika's Marijan Preljević got a good chance for a goal in the 31st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Miodrag Anđelić recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 42nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Mateja Jačić who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 44thth minute tested the skills of Dražen Đuković when he managed to save the team from getting behind. 47 minutes into the match, Konjarnik Republika's goalkeeper Dražen Đuković had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Mateja Jačić. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The wind increased when Vinko Radosavljević made the kick off in the second half. Zlatomir Marilović charged in rather forcefully in the 53rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Zlatomir Marilović the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After recieving a nice pass, Konjarnik Republika's Cvetko Antić tried to score from far away in the 54th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Zlatosav Stamatović hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. Kuzman Masulović received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 58th minute. Dražen Đuković tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kuzman Masulović in the 60th minute of play forced Konjarnik Republika's goalkeeper Dražen Đuković to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Martonoš's Vinko Radosavljević in the 61st minute got a chance for a shot 61st didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. After a defensive mix-up in Konjarnik Republika's zone, Mateja Jačić stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dražen Đuković came out of the goal and Mateja Jačić tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Dražen Đuković showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Vinko Radosavljević, who was totally free with the ball in the 95th minute.
