The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Zlatomir Dobrašinović made an important save on a dangerous shot by Mile Kričković in the 3rd minute. After a rather tough play, Gnjilan's Ratko Bogućanin got a free kick in the 3rd minute. Mile Kričković fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 5th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Zlatomir Dobrašinović having to interfere. Ratko Bogućanin hit a great freekick 6 minutes into the match. Gnjilan's Zlatomir Dobrašinović played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ljuba Radivojević in the 7th minute of play. Grujica Ješić kicked well hit freekick during the 10th minute of the match. In the 12th minute, North Korea's Manojlo Uzelac dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-0. After having played for 17 minutes, Momir Divljaković managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. North Korea's supporters crossed their fingers, but Momir Divljaković was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Murat Mićić sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 26th minute, Živadin Brnović hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 27 played minutes Gnjilan got a freekick which was hit by Živadin Brnović. After having played for 28 minutes, Ljuba Radivojević managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. North Korea's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ljuba Radivojević was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 29th minute, Lazar Brnović hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 30th minute, Mile Kričković got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Zlatomir Dobrašinović made a fantastic save in the 36th minute, when Mile Kričković sent off a good shot on target. The supporters of North Korea booed when Gnjilan was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 39 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jugoslav Ristanić didn't get a good kick on the ball. Zlatomir Dobrašinović made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ljuba Radivojević in the 40th minute of play. Murat Mićić's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Stevan Lezajić read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 42nd minute of play. Stevan Lezajić took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Vlade Cuković, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.

Ratko Bogućanin kicked well hit freekick during the 53rd minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 54th minute, Mladomir Prodanović managed to get in a good position for a shot. North Korea's supporters rose to their feet, but Mladomir Prodanović was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Zlatomir Dobrašinović breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 60th minute Ljuba Radivojević shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Zlatomir Dobrašinović saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Manojlo Uzelac during the 64th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 65th minute, Manojlo Uzelac hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Murat Mićić struck a weak shot in the 68th minute. Stevan Lezajić didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Gnjilan. Ljuba Radivojević took the ball and in the 72 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Zlatomir Dobrašinović. Zlatomir Dobrašinović dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. After a rather tough play, North Korea's Dojčin Maksimović got a free kick in the 76th minute. In the 79th minute Gnjilan were awarded a corner. Nebojša Kažić went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner led Gnjilan's Nebojša Kažić to fire away a dangerous shot which Stevan Lezajić despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Murat Mićić took the ball and in the 82 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Stevan Lezajić. Stevan Lezajić dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-1. The supporters of Gnjilan booed when North Korea was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 87 match minutes in a wonderful position. Manojlo Uzelac didn't get a good kick on the ball. Nebojša Kažić's late challenge caught a North Korea's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Nebojša Kažić helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of North Korea booed when Gnjilan was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 92 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nebojša Kažić didn't get a good kick on the ball. Mile Kričković fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 96th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Zlatomir Dobrašinović having to interfere. Gnjilan's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
