The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 5th minute, Amren Higginson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ely's Ermid Forsyth shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 5th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Cynbal Chandler but with some difficulty. Ely's Llwydeu Colville got a good chance for a goal in the 8th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Clud Harvey received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 18th minute. Garnock Gilboy tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Clust Bowie's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Garnock Gilboy was relentless in the 23rd minute of the game. After 25 played minutes Ely got a freekick which was hit by Llwydeu Colville. In the 26th minute, Drystan Hynes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 27th minute of the match Arawn Goff sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Garnock Gilboy skillfully saved the ball. 28 minutes into the match, Clust Bowie notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Ely's Garnock Gilboy. Garnock Gilboy was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Clud Harvey in the 31st minute of play forced Ely's goalkeeper Garnock Gilboy to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Clust Bowie struck a weak shot in the 32nd minute. Garnock Gilboy didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Newtown Utd. Llwydeu Colville fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cynbal Chandler having to interfere. Cynbal Chandler made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Llwydeu Colville in the 36th minute of play. Olwydd Farley fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cynbal Chandler having to interfere. In the 48th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ely's goalkeeper Garnock Gilboy, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Clust Bowie stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Tomos Chaston kicked well hit freekick during the 52nd minute of the match. Ely's Garnock Gilboy proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 60th minute of the match, managed to save Ely from getting a goal against them. Garnock Gilboy took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Clust Bowie, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 69 minutes into the match, Newtown Utd's goal looked a bit too open when Llwydeu Colville came free, but Cynbal Chandler reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Clust Bowie had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Garnock Gilboy took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Amren Higginson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a defensive mix-up in Newtown Utd's zone, Llwydeu Colville stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Cynbal Chandler came out of the goal and Llwydeu Colville tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Garnock Gilboy made a fantastic save in the 80th minute, when Clust Bowie sent off a good shot on target. When Ely's Llwydeu Colville in the 81st minute got a chance for a shot 81st didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Newtown Utd's goalie prevented a goal. Clust Bowie fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 82nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Garnock Gilboy having to interfere. If Clud Harvey had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 97th minute, Llwydeu Colville managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ely's supporters rose to their feet, but Llwydeu Colville was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Cynbal Chandler breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
