Seating: 1735, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Riadh Ben Zid started the match with the kick off. Carlisle's Radhi Bassir proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 7th minute of the match, managed to save Carlisle from getting a goal against them. The audience was convinced that Paulo Slimane's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Radhi Bassir was relentless in the 11th minute of the game. 12 minutes into the match, Birkdale's goal looked a bit too open when Hedi Jelassi came free, but Hamadi Baccouche reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Hedi Jelassi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Habib Zahaf was slow to take the kick. During this time Carlisle's players had a chance to rest. The corner led Carlisle's Habib Zahaf to fire away a dangerous shot which Hamadi Baccouche despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. After 46 played minutes Birkdale got a freekick which was hit by Hedi Rostom. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Paulo Slimane was the one to do the kick off. Hamadi Baccouche made an important save on a dangerous shot by Hedi Jelassi in the 52nd minute. Riadh Ben Zid had several of the Birkdale's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 55 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 0-1 score and a disappointed Hamadi Baccouche as he didn't even see the shot coming. Riadh Ben Zid recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 58th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 63rd minute, Bahi Essebsi left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Birkdale fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. Radhi Bassir made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Paulo Slimane in the 69th minute of play. Hamadi Baccouche showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Riadh Ben Zid in the 70th minute of the match. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 86th minute of the game. One of Carlisle:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Birkdale:s goal. In the 90th match minute, Carlisle was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mongi Khcharem to maneuver through the defense. When Paulo Slimane came up free with the goalie in the 96th minute, the Birkdale fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Paulo Slimane couldn't finish the play. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
