Chaouki Karoui showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Muhammad Ladgham, who was totally free with the ball in the 15th minute. Chedli M'hadhebi struck a weak shot in the 18th minute. Chaouki Karoui didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Oldham FC. David Aleya hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. Ahmed Amor fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Chaouki Karoui having to interfere. Oldham FC's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Moncef Nafti 25 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 1-0. The audience thought a goal was coming when Radhi Sguir got free with Hatem Ben Marzouki in the 30th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 30 played minutes Oldham FC got a freekick which was hit by Mohamed Saïdi. Moncef Nafti might have been able to make a better finish in the 32nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Hatem Ben Marzouki. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Moncef Nafti ran back to his position shaking his head. 35 minutes into the game, Ahmed Amor cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Chaouki Karoui was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Radhi Sguir recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 40th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ahmed Amor fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Chaouki Karoui having to interfere. Chaouki Karoui made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Chedli M'hadhebi in the 47th minute of play. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Moncef Nafti to strike the kick off in the second half. Ahmed Amor received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 51st minute. Chaouki Karoui tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Oldham FC's Ali Jemmali got a free kick in the 57th minute. Patrick Yahia, 58 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Chedli M'hadhebi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Chaouki Karoui having to interfere. In the 68th minute, Hamdi Beya hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Chedli M'hadhebi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 69th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 71st minute, Chedli M'hadhebi managed to get in a good position for a shot. Oldham FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Chedli M'hadhebi was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Chaouki Karoui breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Chedli M'hadhebi in the 77thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Chaouki Karoui, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. The supporters of Helsby booed when Oldham FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 78 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ali Jemmali didn't get a good kick on the ball. Chedli M'hadhebi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Chaouki Karoui having to interfere. When Abdallah Karray fell near the penalty area in the 86th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Oldham FC's protests and gave Abdallah Karray a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Oldham FC getting a freekick after 87 minutes play. Abdallah Karray hit a great ball. Helsby's Chaouki Karoui proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 92nd minute of the match, managed to save Helsby from getting a goal against them. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Oldham FC players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
