Mahmoud Aziza showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Caid Yahia in the 18th minute of the match. Slim Ben Lamouchi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mahmoud Aziza having to interfere. 24 minutes into the game, Amine Bourguiba was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Portsmouth City's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Etoile Du Sahel the free kick. Amine Bourguiba kicked well hit freekick during the 24th minute of the match. Hamed Bachraoui came out of the goal and Khaled Jamaa tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Zine Karoui to make the kick off. The supporters of Portsmouth City booed when Etoile Du Sahel was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 56 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hocine Bouchrara didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Alaeddine Gasmi got free with Hamed Bachraoui in the 59th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a defensive mix-up in Portsmouth City's zone, Slim Ben Lamouchi stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mahmoud Aziza came out of the goal and Slim Ben Lamouchi tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Caid Yahia might have been able to make a better finish in the 62nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Mahmoud Aziza. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Caid Yahia ran back to his position shaking his head. Alaeddine Gasmi could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 65th minute of the match, but Hamed Bachraoui made a huge save. During the 66th minute of the match Khaled Jamaa completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Khaled Jamaa a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. Khaled Jamaa hit a great freekick 67 minutes into the match. In the 69th match minute, Etoile Du Sahel was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Walid Fergani to maneuver through the defense. 71 minutes into the match, Etoile Du Sahel's goalkeeper Hamed Bachraoui had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Habib Braham. 82 minutes into the match, Portsmouth City's goal looked a bit too open when Caid Yahia came free, but Mahmoud Aziza reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Alaeddine Gasmi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Hamed Bachraoui made an important save on a dangerous shot by Alaeddine Gasmi in the 93rd minute. After 94 minutes, Mehdi El Bez mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Etoile Du Sahel and the Portsmouth City players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 94 played minutes Etoile Du Sahel got a freekick which was hit by Mehdi El Bez.
