The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Sean McQuey might have been able to make a better finish in the 6th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Gus Charles. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Sean McQuey ran back to his position shaking his head. After having played for 9 minutes, Brian Gilroy managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Sam from Inverness's supporters crossed their fingers, but Brian Gilroy was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Marcus Donlevy sent away a hard shot on goal in the 12th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Sam from Inverness's defense didn't have a chance, in the 14th minute, when Sean McQuey scored to the left of an out of position Gus Charles, making the score, 1-0. Dundee City's Marcus Donlevy got a good chance for a goal in the 18th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Gus Charles took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Sean McQuey, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience was convinced that Sean McQuey's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Gus Charles was relentless in the 22nd minute of the game. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sean McQuey in the 24th minute of play forced Sam from Inverness's goalkeeper Gus Charles to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Dundee City's Marcus Donlevy got a good chance for a goal in the 28th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 31 minutes into the game, Euan Wright cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Ryan McGillivray was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Walter Goddard's late challenge caught a Dundee City's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Walter Goddard helped the player get up and apologised. Sean McQuey recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 45th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Gus Charles made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sean McQuey in the 47th minute of play. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Sean McQuey to strike the kick off in the second half. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Marcus Donlevy in the 54th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Gus Charles prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Sean McQuey sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. Sean McQuey received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 86th minute. Gus Charles tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Marcus Donlevy had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
