Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Donald Goudie got the match started through his kick off. After a defensive mix-up in Wick United's zone, Eric McShimes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Archie McQuey came out of the goal and Eric McShimes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Montrose Flames's Robin McGilchrist played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lloyd Dobie in the 10th minute of play. When Donald Goudie came up free with the goalie in the 15th minute, the Montrose Flames fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Donald Goudie couldn't finish the play. Eric McShimes might have been able to make a better finish in the 17th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Archie McQuey. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Eric McShimes ran back to his position shaking his head. If Donald Goudie had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 19th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Eric McShimes's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Archie McQuey read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 20th minute of play. Archie McQuey made a fantastic save in the 21st minute, when Eric McShimes sent off a good shot on target. Montrose Flames's Eric McShimes got a good chance for a goal in the 25th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Robin McGilchrist showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lloyd Dobie in the 28th minute of the match. The referee felt a red card was in order, 32 minutes into the game, when Fraser Cumin put in a rough tackle. In a very dangerous position, a player in Montrose Flames fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 32nd minute. Penalty! The referee gave Wick United a penalty, 34 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Sam Day, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Montrose Flames's Robin McGilchrist. 0-1. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Cameron Adie in the 37th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Robin McGilchrist saved Montrose Flames from getting behind. 41 minutes into the match, Montrose Flames's goal looked a bit too open when Cameron Adie came free, but Robin McGilchrist reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 42 minutes into the match, Montrose Flames's goal looked a bit too open when Lloyd Dobie came free, but Robin McGilchrist reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Eric McShimes during the 43rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 47th minute Lloyd Dobie shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Robin McGilchrist saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The Montrose Flames players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Wick United were winning 0-1.

The wind increased when Cameron Adie made the kick off in the second half. A sloppy throw-in by Lloyd Dobie in the 52nd minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Montrose Flames's Donald Hawthorn. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cameron Adie in the 55th minute of play forced Montrose Flames's goalkeeper Robin McGilchrist to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 56th minute of the match, Cameron Adie tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Robin McGilchrist saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. In the 58th minute, Cameron Adie ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Robin McGilchrist was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. Cameron Adie received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 61st minute. Robin McGilchrist tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Lloyd Dobie sent away a hard shot on goal in the 66th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Theo McLeod fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Archie McQuey having to interfere. Eric McShimes recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 85th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eric McShimes in the 87th minute of play forced Wick United's goalkeeper Archie McQuey to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Lloyd Dobie got free with Robin McGilchrist in the 88th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Chants of Wick United echoed around the stadium as the match drew to a close. Supporters and players were both delighted with the win, as Montrose Flames had held the ball for most of the match.
