In the 5th minute, Donald Goudie hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Fraser Cumin received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 12th minute. Allan McGregor tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 15 minutes, Rod Clanachan made it 1-0 with a short kick to the right side. Montrose Flames's Robin McGilchrist tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Robin McGilchrist stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Rod Clanachan's shot from short distance in the 22nd minute. Donald Goudie sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Donald Goudie couldn't finish the play. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Robin McGilchrist, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Donald Goudie to strike the kick off in the second half. Theo McLeod hit a great ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Rod Clanachan in the 90th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Robin McGilchrist saved Montrose Flames from getting behind. Robin McGilchrist took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rod Clanachan, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to Montrose Flames getting a freekick after 95 minutes play. Theo McLeod hit a great ball. Many of Montrose Flames's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Montrose Flames may have spent more time on the ball, but Oldcastle Retirement Club were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
