The audience was convinced that Rod Clanachan's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Archie McQuey was relentless in the 13th minute of the game. The Oldcastle Retirement Club fans' excitement grew in the 14th match minute when Oldcastle Retirement Club's Rod Clanachan looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. If Rod Clanachan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Archie McQuey stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Rod Clanachan's shot from short distance in the 21st minute. Cameron Adie charged in rather forcefully in the 22nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Cameron Adie the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Wick United getting a freekick after 22 minutes play. Cameron Adie hit a great ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Rod Clanachan in the 25th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Archie McQuey prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Arthur McKerchar sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Oldcastle Retirement Club's Rod Clanachan in the 28th minute got a chance for a shot 28th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Wick United's goalie prevented a goal. Oldcastle Retirement Club's Arthur McKerchar got a good chance for a goal in the 29th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When the match had gone on for 30 minutes, Rod Clanachan put it in 0-2 from a short distance just to the right of Archie McQuey. Alistair Fairley hit a great freekick 34 minutes into the match. Archie McQuey came out of the goal in the 37th minute to try and stop a shot by Oldcastle Retirement Club's Jeremy McInnes. But to his dismay, Jeremy McInnes quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-3. If Rod Clanachan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 43rd minute, Rod Clanachan managed to get in a good position for a shot. Oldcastle Retirement Club's supporters rose to their feet, but Rod Clanachan was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Archie McQuey breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Oldcastle Retirement Club's Arthur McKerchar got a good chance for a goal in the 45th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Oldcastle Retirement Club's Rod Clanachan in the 47th minute got a chance for a shot 47th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Wick United's goalie prevented a goal. Disappointed in the 0-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Ron Jeffrey fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 51st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Archie McQuey having to interfere. Archie McQuey didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Rod Clanachan went, in the 52nd minute, to the upper right corner, 0-4 was the resulting score. After 55 played minutes Oldcastle Retirement Club got a freekick which was hit by Arthur McKerchar. Jack Kean kicked well hit freekick during the 56th minute of the match. Rod Clanachan did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 0-5 to the left of a surprised Archie McQuey 61 minutes into the match. Rod Clanachans short, quick shot in the 64thth minute got Archie McQuey to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. 70 minutes into the match, Rod Clanachan dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Archie McQuey, 0-6. Paddy McComas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 73rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Allan McGregor having to interfere. With a little luck, Wick United's Archie McQuey got control of the ball when Rod Clanachan tried to sneak it across the goal line. 86 minutes into the match, Wick United's goal looked a bit too open when Rod Clanachan came free, but Archie McQuey reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Rod Clanachans short, quick shot in the 88thth minute got Archie McQuey to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. In the 91st minute, Oldcastle Retirement Club's Ron Jeffrey dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-7. After a rather tough play, Wick United's Lloyd Dobie got a free kick in the 94th minute. Oldcastle Retirement Club's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
