Davie McNuir didn't get a good kick on the ball. Norman Davies had several of the Edinburgh Steelers FC's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 5 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 1-0 score and a disappointed Alistair Mennie as he didn't even see the shot coming. Bruce Mitchell sent away a hard shot on goal in the 10th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Bruce Mitchell fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jack McShimes having to interfere. After 13 played minutes Stornoway FC got a freekick which was hit by Rick Frissell. After a rather tough play, Edinburgh Steelers FC's Ray McKelloch got a free kick in the 17th minute. Jack McShimes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ray McKelloch, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Alistair Mennie made an important save on a dangerous shot by Norman Davies in the 23rd minute. If Norman Davies had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. John Hughson was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 29th minute. Stornoway FC's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. After a defensive mix-up in Edinburgh Steelers FC's zone, Norman Davies stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Alistair Mennie came out of the goal and Norman Davies tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A hard shot 39 in the game by Norman Davies from a close distance when the talented Alistair Mennie managed to make a qualified save. Edinburgh Steelers FC's players were relieved. Owen McMurchie charged in rather forcefully in the 39th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Owen McMurchie the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 46th minute Bruce Mitchell shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jack McShimes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

The wind increased when John Hughson made the kick off in the second half. After 51 played minutes Edinburgh Steelers FC got a freekick which was hit by Bruce Mitchell. 3-0 became the score in the 56th minute when Norman Davies elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. In the 66th match minute, Edinburgh Steelers FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Davie McNuir to maneuver through the defense. Edinburgh Steelers FC's Alistair Mennie played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Norman Davies in the 68th minute of play. Chris McPherson charged in rather forcefully in the 70th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. Les McHardy stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Alistair Mennie. 4-0. 77 minutes in the game, Ray McKelloch fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Jack McShimes having to interfere. 79 minutes into the match, Stornoway FC's goalkeeper Jack McShimes had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Bruce Mitchell. After 82 minutes, Ben Burnes mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Stornoway FC and the Edinburgh Steelers FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. Ben Burnes kicked well hit freekick during the 82nd minute of the match. In the 89th minute, Billy Donleavy hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Vincent Gowrie charged in rather forcefully in the 91st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. Edinburgh Steelers FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ray McKelloch was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 96 minutes into the match, Edinburgh Steelers FC's goal looked a bit too open when Norman Davies came free, but Alistair Mennie reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
