If Owen McMurchie had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 4th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ray McKelloch's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Patrick Lawrie read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 6th minute of play. Owen McMurchie kicked well hit freekick during the 7th minute of the match. In the 8th minute Wal Collier shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alistair Mennie saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Eddie Tolmie had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 8th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Edinburgh Steelers FC getting a freekick after 18 minutes play. Larry Greusach hit a great ball. Wal Collier recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 23rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After having played for 25 minutes, Eddie Tolmie managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Inverkeithing FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Eddie Tolmie was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. A nice corner shot did that Nick Dean got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Alistair Mennie quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Eddie Tolmie sent away a hard shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wal Collier in the 46th minute of play forced Edinburgh Steelers FC's goalkeeper Alistair Mennie to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Wal Collier stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Billy Donleavy hit a great freekick 51 minutes into the match. Inverkeithing FC were awarded a corner in the 55th minute after Edinburgh Steelers FC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Nick Dean took the corner. A nice corner shot did that Nick Dean got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Alistair Mennie quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Alistair Mennie made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Wal Collier in the 69th minute of play. After 71 minutes Edinburgh Steelers FC's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Nick Dean who took care of the corner kick. After having played for 73 minutes, Bruce Mitchell managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Edinburgh Steelers FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Bruce Mitchell was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 75th minute, Bruce Mitchell managed to get in a good position for a shot. Patrick Lawrie breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Alistair Mennie was a little too slow when Wal Collier got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 80th minute. The score was now 0-1. When Wal Collier came up free with the goalie in the 86th minute, the Inverkeithing FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Wal Collier couldn't finish the play. Larry Greusach kicked well hit freekick during the 87th minute of the match. Nick Dean was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 88th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Greig Robison received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 93rd minute. Alistair Mennie tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
