The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Walter McCrain fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Kenneth McCartney having to interfere. 24 minutes into the match, Heriot United's goal looked a bit too open when Walter McCrain came free, but Kenneth McCartney reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Steve Elder hit a great freekick 25 minutes into the match. Kenneth McCartney took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from William Stringer, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. William Stringer struck a weak shot in the 32nd minute. Kenneth McCartney didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Heriot United. In the 41st minute, William Stringer ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Kenneth McCartney was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. In the 45th minute, Bruce Ross hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Graeme Barton to strike the kick off in the second half. William Stringer who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 54thth minute tested the skills of Kenneth McCartney when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Walter McCrain sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. When Lochearnhead United's William Stringer, in the 56th minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for Lochearnhead United. When Graeme Barton fell near the penalty area in the 60th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Heriot United's protests and gave Graeme Barton a yellow card for diving instead. Graeme Barton hit a great freekick 60 minutes into the match. In the 63rd match minute, Heriot United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by John McLachlan to maneuver through the defense. Walter McCrain's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Kenneth McCartney read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 65th minute of play. Donald McKimmie was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 67 minutes into the match. Brian Fullarton took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 92nd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Ewan Donlevy. Lochearnhead United's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nicholas Cluny in the 98th minute of play forced Lochearnhead United's goalkeeper Ewan Donlevy to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Lochearnhead United's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
