Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Nigel Greenlaw ran back to his position shaking his head. Graeme Barton's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Douglas McQuarrie read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 6th minute of play. If Nigel Greenlaw had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 11th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 12 played minutes Heriot United got a freekick which was hit by Gavin Randolf. After some fancy dribbling in the 13th minute, Nigel Greenlaw managed to get in a good position for a shot. Biggar's supporters rose to their feet, but Nigel Greenlaw was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Kenneth McCartney breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Troy Mavor charged in rather forcefully in the 16th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Troy Mavor the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Troy Mavor kicked well hit freekick during the 16th minute of the match. After 17 played minutes, Heriot United's Brian Fullarton shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Douglas McQuarrie came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Heriot United reached it. With a little luck, Heriot United's Kenneth McCartney got control of the ball when Les Adie tried to sneak it across the goal line. Nicholas Cluny received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Douglas McQuarrie tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 26th match minute, Biggar was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Troy Mavor to maneuver through the defense. In the 32nd minute, Graeme Barton got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Douglas McQuarrie took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nicholas Cluny, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Nicholas Cluny sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Heriot United's Kenneth McCartney proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 44th minute of the match, managed to save Heriot United from getting a goal against them.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Graeme Barton made a kick off. Nigel Greenlaw received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 52nd minute. Kenneth McCartney tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some careless play in the Heriot United defense, Nigel Greenlaw kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Kenneth McCartney. The Heriot United fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Kenneth McCartney should have stopped the shot. After 63 played minutes Biggar got a freekick which was hit by Ken Caw. Graeme Barton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 65th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Nicholas Cluny received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 73rd minute. Douglas McQuarrie tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 75 minutes into the game, Ray McAree was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Biggar's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Heriot United the free kick. The supporters of Heriot United booed when Biggar was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 75 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ray McAree didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Graeme Barton came up free with the goalie in the 76th minute, the Heriot United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Graeme Barton couldn't finish the play. Kenneth McCartney came out of the goal in the 79th minute to try and stop a shot by Biggar's Nigel Greenlaw. But to his dismay, Nigel Greenlaw quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-0. Nigel Greenlaw sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Nicholas Cluny's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 89thth minute, Douglas McQuarrie skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Nicholas Cluny fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Douglas McQuarrie having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Biggar's Troy Mavor got a free kick in the 92nd minute. When Graeme Barton, who was free, got the in front of the goal in the 93 minute he wasn't focused and tipped the ball just over the goal. The Douglas McQuarrie was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar.
