The supporters of Clackmannan FC booed when Wick was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Will Guthrie didn't get a good kick on the ball. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gordon Robertson couldn't finish the play. In the 29th minute, Lee McGilchrist got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 32nd minute, Harry McRach managed to get in a good position for a shot. Clackmannan FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Harry McRach was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Harold McIldowie breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Bruce Fullarton made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Martin Cruickshanks in the 35th minute of play. If Martin Cruickshanks had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Wick's zone, Gordon Robertson stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Harold McIldowie came out of the goal and Gordon Robertson tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Gordon Robertson to make the kick off. Harry McRach sent away a hard shot on goal in the 51st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Gordon Robertson in the 53rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Harold McIldowie saved Wick from getting behind. After 54 played minutes Wick got a freekick which was hit by Stevie McKellachie. Martin Cruickshanks sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 60th minute the ball was on its way in behind Wick's goalkeeper Harold McIldowie, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Martin Cruickshanks could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 61st minute of the match, but Bruce Fullarton made a huge save. Clackmannan FC's Ray McIlvride suffered a sore thigh after 64 minutes and couldn't finish the game. Will Guthrie's late challenge caught a Clackmannan FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Will Guthrie helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Wick getting a freekick after 65 minutes play. Will Guthrie hit a great ball. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Clackmannan FC. Lee McGilchrist was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 92nd minute. Wick's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Martin Cruickshanks in the 94th minute of play forced Clackmannan FC's goalkeeper Bruce Fullarton to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Harry McRach had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Wick had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
