Iain Cargill's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Kenneth Crum read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 13th minute of play. Murray McUre took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ross Collier, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 20th match minute, Stornoway FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cameron McKichan to maneuver through the defense. Manchester City's Bradley Morgan couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 21st minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Stornoway FC. After 23 played minutes Manchester City got a freekick which was hit by Neil Wharrie. After a defensive mix-up in Manchester City's zone, David Hutchenson stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Murray McUre came out of the goal and David Hutchenson tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 33rd minute there was a penalty for Manchester City. Bradley Morgan stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Kenneth Crum. 1-3. When Iain Cargill came up free with the goalie in the 40th minute, the Manchester City fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Iain Cargill couldn't finish the play. Ross Collier received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 45th minute. Murray McUre tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-3 lead.

In the 55th minute Iain Cargill shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kenneth Crum saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ross Collier in the 60th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Murray McUre saved Manchester City from getting behind. David Hutchenson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 63rd minute. Murray McUre tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Stornoway FC were awarded a corner in the 72th minute after Manchester City's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Edward Carstarphen took the corner. Rupert Appleton was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. After some fancy dribbling in the 81st minute, Ross Collier managed to get in a good position for a shot. Stornoway FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Ross Collier was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Murray McUre breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. David Hutchenson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Murray McUre having to interfere. Although Stornoway FC had been in control for most of the match, Manchester City still came away with the win.
