Spectators: 7770 (Terracing: 5828, Seating: 1787, VIP seats: 155) Laurencekirk AFC's Owen McCosram started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Terence Tolmie kicked well hit freekick during the 5th minute of the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Malcolm Lecky during the 15th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Owen McCosram's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jamie Scott read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 18th minute of play. Arthur Baxter fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jamie Scott having to interfere. Jamie Gaunson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Guy McFie in the 22nd minute of play. In the 29th minute Grant Gregorson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jamie Gaunson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a little luck, Helensburgh's Jamie Scott got control of the ball when Arthur Baxter tried to sneak it across the goal line. 35 minutes had been played when some careless play by Helensburgh's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Andy McKee was slow to take the kick. During this time Laurencekirk AFC's players had a chance to rest. Andy McKee made a great header on Laurencekirk AFC's corner, it was just that Helensburgh's Jamie Scott managed to reach the ball for a save. In the 40th minute, Arthur Baxter fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Jamie Scott, passed just outside the right post. 47 minutes into the match, Laurencekirk AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Grant Gregorson came free, but Jamie Gaunson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Guy McFie made a kick off. If Grant Gregorson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 54th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Guy McFie came up free with the goalie in the 55th minute, the Helensburgh fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Guy McFie couldn't finish the play. If Owen McCosram had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 60th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Grant Gregorson struck a weak shot in the 62nd minute. Jamie Gaunson didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Helensburgh. In the 65th minute, Guy McFie fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. In a very dangerous position, a player in Helensburgh fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 68th minute. Penalty! Andy McKee shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. Guy McFie recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 73rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Owen McCosram sent away a hard shot on goal in the 76th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 78 minutes into the match, Helensburgh's goal looked a bit too open when Owen McCosram came free, but Jamie Scott reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 80th minute the ball was on its way in behind Laurencekirk AFC's goalkeeper Jamie Gaunson, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Grant Gregorson recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 84th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 86 played minutes Laurencekirk AFC got a freekick which was hit by Andy McKee. Grant Gregorson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 90th minute. Jamie Gaunson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 91 played minutes Laurencekirk AFC got a freekick which was hit by Euan Ewing. Laurencekirk AFC's Jamie Gaunson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Guy McFie in the 93rd minute of play. Grant Gregorson took the ball and in the 98 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Jamie Gaunson. Jamie Gaunson dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1.
