With a little luck, Helensburgh's Jamie Scott got control of the ball when Nathan Tonnochy tried to sneak it across the goal line. Kinross's Douglas Donaldson got a good chance for a goal in the 39th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Nathan Tonnochy fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jamie Scott having to interfere. Kinross's John Beton played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Grant Gregorson in the 47th minute of play. 49 minutes had been played when some careless play by Kinross's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Ivan Ellis was slow to take the kick. During this time Helensburgh's players had a chance to rest. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Guy McFie was the one to do the kick off. In the 57th minute Guy McFie shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but John Beton saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Grant Gregorson recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 58th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Guy McFie was extremely unlucky when he, in the 60th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. Helensburgh's Guy McFie got a good chance for a goal in the 62nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 68 minutes into the game, Douglas Donaldson cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-0. Jamie Scott was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After some careless play in the Kinross defense, Grant Gregorson kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of John Beton. The Kinross fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that John Beton should have stopped the shot. 77 minutes into the match, Kinross's Douglas Donaldson sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Jamie Scott narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 81st minute the ball was on its way in behind Kinross's goalkeeper John Beton, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. If Guy McFie had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Helensburgh's zone, Douglas Donaldson stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jamie Scott came out of the goal and Douglas Donaldson tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The supporters of Helensburgh booed when Kinross was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Joseph Caw didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Grant Gregorson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 97th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
