Will McConacher could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 3rd minute of the match, but Troy Laidlaw made a huge save. In the 15th minute Colin McKay shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Bowie saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Motherwell booed when Portnahaven United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ronan Goudie didn't get a good kick on the ball. Colin McKay hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gary McGilbert in the 24th minute of play forced Motherwell's goalkeeper Jonathan Bowie to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 26 minutes of play, Portnahaven United's Gary McGilbert made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Jonathan Bowie was left in no man's land by his defense there! Timmy Barclay kicked well hit freekick during the 29th minute of the match. Gary McGilbert sent away a hard shot on goal in the 31st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Will McConacher received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 37th minute. Troy Laidlaw tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Timmy Barclay hit a great freekick 41 minutes into the match. Motherwell's Jonathan Bowie played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gary McGilbert in the 45th minute of play. Bradley Clayton fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Troy Laidlaw having to interfere. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Peter McVean charged in rather forcefully in the 52nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Peter McVean the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 53rd match minute, Portnahaven United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Peter McVean to maneuver through the defense. After some fancy dribbling in the 59th minute, Will McConacher managed to get in a good position for a shot. Motherwell's supporters rose to their feet, but Will McConacher was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Troy Laidlaw breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. A collision led to Portnahaven United getting a freekick after 60 minutes play. Colin McKay hit a great ball. Peter McVean in the 65thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Jonathan Bowie, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Gary McGilbert fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jonathan Bowie having to interfere. Gary McGilbert recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 72nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 74th minute, Will McConacher managed to get in a good position for a shot. Motherwell's supporters rose to their feet, but Will McConacher was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Troy Laidlaw breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 75th minute, Bradley Clayton ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Troy Laidlaw was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. 78 minutes into the match, Will McConacher notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of Portnahaven United's Troy Laidlaw. Troy Laidlaw was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The referee ignored Portnahaven United's protests and gave Ronan Goudie a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Portnahaven United getting a freekick after 93 minutes play. Ronan Goudie hit a great ball. For all the effort they put into the match, the Portnahaven United players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Motherwell.
