Lossiemouth's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Connor Young was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. Frank Hastings sent away a hard shot on goal in the 18th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the match had gone on for 30 minutes, Vincent Cook took a quick shot and it went in 2-0 without a chance for Walter McCaig to make any attempt to save it. After 33 played minutes Ayr got a freekick which was hit by Frank Hastings. After a defensive mix-up in Ayr's zone, Guy McRa stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. William Collier came out of the goal and Guy McRa tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. William Collier made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Guy McRa in the 41st minute of play. Connor Young succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 3-0 in the 46th playminute.

The wind increased when Vincent Cook made the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute Keith Conlon shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but William Collier saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Lossiemouth's zone, Vincent Cook stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Walter McCaig came out of the goal and Vincent Cook tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 60th minute, Eric Cavanagh hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 61 minutes into the game, Connor Young cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 4-0. Walter McCaig was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Vincent Cook received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 65th minute. Walter McCaig tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Connor Young struck a weak shot in the 66th minute. Walter McCaig didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ayr. William Collier made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Keith Conlon in the 75th minute of play. After 76 played minutes Ayr got a freekick which was hit by Frank Hastings. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. Keith Conlon did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 4-1 to the left of a surprised William Collier 89 minutes into the match. If Connor Young had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Ayr had won after a very even match.
