Robert Hobson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 4th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marc McLachlan having to interfere. The supporters of Kirkcaldy booed when Leven was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 5 match minutes in a wonderful position. Guy McInroy didn't get a good kick on the ball. A collision led to Leven getting a freekick after 11 minutes play. Ray Ferguson hit a great ball. The audience was convinced that Robert Hobson's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Marc McLachlan was relentless in the 14th minute of the game. If Alistair Fairley had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 16th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Malcolm Skene during the 18th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Malcolm Skene hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. 19 minutes into the match, Blair Gilmour sent off a long shot that looked like it was going straight into the goal, but because Donald McRobert threw himself in his full length he managed to grip the ball by the left post, and there was no goal for Blair Gilmour this time. Kirkcaldy's Donald McRobert played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Douglas Ronald in the 21st minute of play. Kirkcaldy's Keith Devlin couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 24th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Leven. Malcolm McThomas recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 26th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Malcolm McThomas received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. Marc McLachlan tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Douglas Ronald fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Donald McRobert having to interfere. Robert Hobson struck a weak shot in the 35th minute. Marc McLachlan didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Kirkcaldy. Marc McLachlan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Robert Hobson, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Dean McDermid during the 38th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Dean McDermid hit a great freekick 38 minutes into the match. Robert Hobson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Paul McPhedran's late challenge caught a Leven's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Paul McPhedran helped the player get up and apologised. Donald McRobert was out of position in the 48 minute of play, and Douglas Ronald capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Douglas Ronald really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Malcolm McThomas to make the kick off. In the 55th minute Douglas Ronald shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Donald McRobert saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Alistair Fairley sent away a hard shot on goal in the 64th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Kirkcaldy's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 70th minute, Guy McInroy hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some fancy dribbling in the 77th minute, Douglas Ronald managed to get in a good position for a shot. Leven's supporters rose to their feet, but Douglas Ronald was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Donald McRobert breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Douglas Ronald received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 82nd minute. Donald McRobert tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Donald McRobert made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Douglas Ronald in the 84th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Leven's zone, Malcolm McThomas stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Marc McLachlan came out of the goal and Malcolm McThomas tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 95th minute the ball was on its way in behind Leven's goalkeeper Marc McLachlan, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Alistair Fairley scored 2-0 in the 98th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Donald McRobert, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot.
