Spectators: 6779 (Terracing: 5000, Seating: 1779, VIP seats: 0) Kilbirnie's Bob McOwl started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 3rd minute, Quentin Bryce hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Drew Tonnochy didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Kenneth McMurdoch went, in the 5th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Gus McQuistan was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 16th minute. Kilbirnie's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. If Bob McOwl had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Kenneth McMurdoch in the 29th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Drew Tonnochy prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Les Buntine made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bob McOwl in the 31st minute of play. Bob McOwl fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Les Buntine having to interfere. The Kilbirnie players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Ardgay AFC were winning 0-1.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Kenneth McMurdoch made a kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kenneth McMurdoch in the 58th minute of play forced Kilbirnie's goalkeeper Drew Tonnochy to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Les Buntine stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Gus McQuistan's shot from short distance in the 73rd minute. Bob McOwl struck a weak shot in the 77th minute. Les Buntine didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Kilbirnie. The supporters of Ardgay AFC booed when Kilbirnie was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 86 match minutes in a wonderful position. Simon Colville didn't get a good kick on the ball. Drew Tonnochy showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Norman Forest, who was totally free with the ball in the 90th minute. Drew Tonnochy stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Kenneth McMurdoch's shot from short distance in the 96th minute. Although Kilbirnie had been in control for most of the match, Ardgay AFC still came away with the win.
