Ter Beadle fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Donald McRobert having to interfere. After having played for 19 minutes, Robert Hobson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Kirkcaldy's supporters crossed their fingers, but Robert Hobson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Frank Paterson hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. If Ter Beadle had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Kirkcaldy's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Kirkcaldy's Paul McPhedran suffered a sore thigh after 35 minutes and couldn't finish the game. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Innes Spittal during the 35th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Kirkcaldy booed when Falkirk was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 36 match minutes in a wonderful position. Innes Spittal didn't get a good kick on the ball. With his leg Harold Hughson managed to avoid a goal in the 38thth minute, when Kirkcaldy's Robert Hobson fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Harold Hughson made a fantastic save in the 43rd minute, when Graham McNey sent off a good shot on target. Robert Hobson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Ter Beadle made the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute, Robert Hobson got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Malcolm McThomas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Joseph McDiarmid fell near the penalty area in the 58th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Falkirk's protests and gave Joseph McDiarmid a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Falkirk's Joseph McDiarmid got a free kick in the 58th minute. Donald McRobert was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Owen McHardy showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-1 in the 61 minute of play. When Malcolm McThomas came up free with the goalie in the 89th minute, the Kirkcaldy fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Malcolm McThomas couldn't finish the play. In the 91st match minute, Kirkcaldy was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Robin McIlrevie to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Kirkcaldy's zone, Ter Beadle stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Donald McRobert came out of the goal and Ter Beadle tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Robert Hobson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
